The journey from home to school was between two sections of the crowd, passing through people who shouted at her and tried to hit her. When she entered the classroom she was the only one present, the other students had been withdrawn by their parents and the teachers refused to teach. All except one, Barbara Henry, who continued to teach and was his only teacher. For a year, the little girl had to bring her own food to avoid poisoning attempts. His family suffered retaliation: his father was fired, his mother was prohibited from shopping in the grocery store near their home and his grandparents were expropriated from the land they cultivated as sharecroppers
They were Feds since the state officials weren’t playing ball due to them all being racist
