I think religion and evolution can go together but the evidence supporting evolution is so strong, you gotta be silly to deny it šŸ˜‚

I remember 20 years ago when it was actually presented as a debatable opinion

    3. In essence, evolution is just about the best tested “theory” in science and if somehow it was wrong, nothing in biology would make senseĀ

Can someone please (attempt to) make the case AGAINST evolution? Like, I’m genuinely curious. Are there any valid points against it at all? Or like, how do they deny it?

The question I like to ask is how does evolution contradict the Bible?

And I’m not saying that as a snarky atheist either,Ā  that was the argument made by Pope Pius XII back in 1950!

    6. Seriously you can be religious and accept evolution. Why are religious people against this?

You wanna get mad? Germ theory is ALSO still just a theory. Go down THAT rabbit hole, I dare ya

My favorite is when creationists are like ā€œI believe in *micro*evolution but not *macro*evolutionā€ as if the latter isn’t just the former on a greater time scale

    9. It also just makes sense even without evidence. It would be very weird if it wasn’t true

    10. Modern medicine. Wouldn’t make sense to test on lab rats, cats, dogs, monkeys, etc otherwise

    11. Anyone who still denies evolution doesn’t understand or care to understand any of this. All the evidence in the world would not convince them to change their minds.

I wanted to see what their reasoning was to deny evolution other than my religious book say so. One website said, I still don’t know if that is sarcasm, “we have never seen a fish grow legs and walk out of water”

I was like tadpoles??? Tadpoles come out of eggs looking like fish, swimming like fish, they grow legs and literally walk out of water. I stopped reading after that

That nerve in your neck that pointlessly wraps around said neck a couple of times is pretty solid evidence on its own.

Denying it just means ignoring a mountain of evidence we’ve had for generations. It’s really not up for debate anymore.

    15. Endogenous retroviruses: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endogenous_retrovirus

Viruses that infected your reproductive cells, got copied into sperm and eggs, and are now sitting inert in your cellular DNA. You can only inherit them from your ancestors, so closely related animals share viral DNA.

They can be used to help determine which animal groups are closely related: a virus shared between humans and chimps, but not found in other Old World Monkeys, helps show that we both descend from a recent ancestor that was infected AFTER it branched off from other Old World Monkeys.

My opinion is this. If someone requires a single specific interpretation of their religion to be true in order to believe in it, then they really aren’t as devout and pious as they pretend to be. They actually have a very weak, fragile faith in their religion if all it takes is a slight reinterpretation to convince them it isn’t true.

    17. My friends at school called me the only idiot for saying that all humans are apes and explaining Darwin’s theory of evolution to them. They start going on about God,blah, blah, blah. It’s annoying.🫩

    18. SyntheticSlime on

You’ve never made a ā€œdirect observationā€ of a monkey turning into a human. Checkmate, atheists!

    19. Initial-Breakfast-33 on

Yes, but you see, that’s not evolution, that is adaptation, this rabbit didn’t become a three headed hydra, just another kind of rabbit, it’s still a rabbit even if it can’t reproduce with the population it branched from

    20. Gandalf_Style on

Correction: you gotta be willfully ignorant and hostile to knowledge to deny evolution.

It’s worse than the Anti-vax crowd, because at least they had an ACTUAL published medical paper (that was 110% bullshit, extremely fraudulent and redacted after like a week with zero attempts at a larger study.)

Evolution deniers just have the same 30 arguments they’ve been using since Carl Linnaeus’ times (the fucking 1740s.)
