Women were not allowed to own anything or work in any meaningful way to support themselves independently. That was only around a hundred years ago, so it makes sense that some women will still look at the man as their paycheck. I think that mentality is changing since women are statistically more educated than men, and are breaking into higher pay roles in stem, but we will see.
