Supreme Court: Hawaii can’t do that because……we just say so.

Citizens United is what caused our country to go downhill politically in a hurry. Very happy to hear Hawaii combat it

Citizens United might be the worse court decision in history, as it relates to a democracy.

Unfortunately, the legal reasoning in citizens united is that political contributions are a form of free speech. They compare donating to a super pac, with paying a printing press to run an article expressing your thoughts on the candidates. They found that the 1st amendment guarantees political donations as protected speech. The same reasoning applies to state limitations. Only way that it’s going to change is through a constitutional amendment (which won’t happen) or much more likely through a change in the political composition of SCOTUS.

Of course they can. They can also just tax wealth. Yearly percentage of net worth. Easy. There’s nothing stopping it. Laws are all made up. The radical position is having loopholes to allow people with an incomprehensible amount not pay tax. Income tax also seemed impossible before we started doing it.

States rights. But not like that obviously.

Delaware is crucial. Eventually, all states will be crucial or companies will all incorporate in the state with the most ~~corruptible~~ favorable laws, like they do with Delaware now.
