10 months ago they suggest to not shove it up your ass.  I think tonight is the night.  Give that thing a good shove

Yeah you *really* shouldn’t be so nonchalant about holding undetonated munitions, *ESPECIALLY* ones that are over 100 years old. As cool as it may be, bomb squad (or your equivalent) should be called and if it isn’t HE, make damn sure its not chemical.

Did you have disposal come in and check it out? As you probably know, that white band is normally used for training / instructional shells. It’s too small to be a chemical or gas shell but its also hard to indicate phosphorous shell as they also had a white band but would’ve been long decayed / activated by now.

Regardless, it’s more than mildlyintersting.. it’s a cool as-fuck find.

When I was a kid spending my summers in west german forests in the 80s – we’d dig a hole and toss one in attach a blasting cap and find out what it really was. 50/50 it was live and no one seemed to care what we were doing. much different these days. lol.

    4. How could you be sure? Ding it with a hammer to see if it sounds like a shell. /jk

Maybe I’m a coward, but I wouldn’t pick that up if it was found in the wild.

There is still 100sq km of no go zone in france (zone rouge) and there is still up to 300 unexploded shells per hectare plus a full time crew still removing unexploded ordinance turned up by farmers etc you can literally find piles of shells by edges of fileds found by farmers left for pick up.

    7. Casually finding another unexploded WWI shell, *should I open it or should I kept it sealed*? 🧑🏽‍🩰

You’re much braver than I would be holding century old undetonated ordinance

    9. I hope I get to read another “man needs WW1 ordnance surgically removed from rectum” case report soon.

    10. This is reckless and either fake or very careless and promoting bad behavior. ⬇️

That’s a pretty freshly mowed patch. How fecking fast is that weed growing??

Dude. Do you have any idea how dangerous this is?

Bro likes to play “autodarwinate roulette.”

Definitely a great idea to pick it up and pose with fragile 100 + year old bombs

Is this some vacation package where they hide items that look authentic and have you ‘find’ them?

Lol the folks in r/EOD are gonna have a good laugh about this idiot.
Seriously, how stupid can you be?

    16. YOU ARE HOLDING A BOMB! Assume it’ll go blow up if you blink in it’s general direction.

    17. roaringbasher66 on

In all fairness, could a Ww1 shell even explode? I’d be suprised if a 40 year old shell could still go bang, those explosive compounds gotta degrade to near uselessness fast

I wonder if OP is ever gonna come back and explain why they think it’s safe to handle unexploded live ordinance and pose with it like they just caught a fish?

      So is OP:

A: Mental and just doesn’t give a damn

B: Unaware that old shells and bombs can literally go off just from being moved.

C: Actually a bomb disposal expert trolling all of us?

    19. did it enter your mind that you shouldn’t pick it up?

I just figured it had a pretty high chance of entering your mind one way or the other.
