It’s so frustrating having this conversation with my parents because my dad said something like “the climate zones used to be flipped where the warm regions were cold and vice versa so if that pattern is happening again then the planet’s gonna be just fine.”

And I’m just sitting there dumbfounded like…..so are we planning to buy a house in Antarctica when it turns tropical or what’s your end goal here buddy? Yeah the planet’s always gonna be “fine”…even if it’s a lifeless desolate rock it’ll technically be “fine”. The thing we’re all worried about is the atmospheric conditions that enable life and *that’s* what’s slowly getting fucked up..

    2. To be fair the oil companies knew it in the late 50s that it will be a problem
We had nearly 70 years to react

    3. Just wait for the AMOC collapse. Then it’s getting pretty cold again … at least in Europe.

    4. WWIII will likely start the next ice age

Global temps took a dip after WWII with the deaths of almost 100 MILLION

    5. Global average temperature increased by 0.45°C from 20 years ago.

So yeah, 2°C increase would be catastrophic.

But it has already risen by 1.45°C since the pre-industrial age. And I’m pretty sure the scientists were warning about 2°C increase from the pre-industrial age.

At 2°C increase, global population exposed to severe heatwaves spikes to 37% (compared to 14% under 1.5°C of warming). Scorching temperature extremes will happen much more frequently.

At this temperature, nearly all tropical coral reefs are expected to suffer irreversible die-offs. Millions of species’ habitats will be severely reduced.

Up to 3 billion people could face chronic water scarcity, and global crop yields for staples like wheat and corn will face steep reductions.

We were actually beginning the transition to the next ice age when the Industrial Revolution began and stopped it.

Hey folks, you know who believes in climate change? Insurance companies do. If they do, maybe you should too. *’Money talks, bullshit walks.’*

    8. Hey! You inconsiderate fuck, have you considered that rich people need to keep making money in the short term, and people in developed countries maintain their lifestyle through massive consumerism? No, you didn’t, you swine!/S.

    9. To the uninitiated, our kind forefather George had much to say on the matter. “The planet is fine. The people are fucked!” Thank you.

At this point, it’s not even weather anymore, it’s just a free trial of hell

Someone this weekend claimed the earth is actually cooling. We’re fucked, these people vote.

    12. Yeah a heatwave just hit my area in the UK

Went from 16C outdoor to 30C in a single day

Funfact, we are in an ice age. Just in an interglacial period. Ice Ages are defined by the polar caps, existing. The scary part is that it should be getting colder.

Global temps are up like 1.5° and El Niño will make it a nice 2-3.5° “during” it‘s time close to the phenomenon, not the entire year and not fully global. That got nothing to do with how hot it will be tomorrow, it‘s all around the world throughout the year

    15. floydymoiyte on

We literally in an ice age right now but I get the point. We’re in the interglacial period but still ice caps and large glacial areas.

I remember there was actually like some C02 level that once we reached it there was no going back. Once we crossed it I wondered why it wasn’t a bigger deal, but then I realized: Oh, yeah, there is no going back.

Nobody gives a flying fuck about anything except having status.
In 10 years boomers are going to become hermits while saying “it’s your turn, better use it wisely!” As if they didn’t just fuck off for 30 years in a rat race.
They were flower children and disco coke heads and then realized they want all the stuff they could get.

We’re still technically in an ice age due to the ice on the caps. It’s going to get a lot hotter which will have positive and negative affects. For example, GIANT INSECTS. Lower heating bill… it’s all about trying to find the positives

Nothing will be done. We just have to hopefully advance our tech to the point fossil fuel won’t be worth it at all. I don’t believe in any global unity even in the face of extinction.

    21. Technicaly_not_alien on

We’re in an ice age, there are thick ice sheets around the poles.

    22. We’re actually supposed to be entering an ice age. That’s how much we’re heating the Earth, we reversed an ice age

    23. Mr_Lumbergh on

Rookie numbers. I remember where I grew up it hit 52 one summer and they shut the airport down because they were worried about planes being able to take off.

    24. Busy_Suspect on

At this point the only thing I think would solve global warming is if science finds an Aerosol that’s safe and easily produced that we can just pump into the atmosphere to counteract the greenhouse effect.

2025 was warmest year in median, last one that warm was 1861 and it’s median was 2.4^C lower.
