Jesus. With all of the space in the sky to navigate, was this intentional or something?

She stayed pretty damn calm and worked the problem! Good for her. I’m not sure I would have been anywhere near that calm.

Curious as to the whole story. Anyone have a link?

    3. Hitting that parachute could definitely screw with the propeller on that plane. There’s no way the pilot did that intentionally.

    4. Unreal!!! How did she survive that!!!! Did they find out who was flying that plane???!!!!! 😲

A driver who hits a jaywalker on a straight road is usually distracted and/or traveling too fast for the conditions. A pilot who hits a paraglider can be fully alert but still fail for many reasons, including, but not limited to the paraglider appearing like a little dot until a few seconds prior to impact, due to the speed of the aircraft in relation to the size and speed of the paraglider.

    6. No hesitation and immediately launched her spare chute .

But did no one see that grizzly staring at her through the tree line ?

I highly doubt anything is intentional here. Not sure of the flight rules of where this happened if not US, but transponder equipment is usually not required by the paraglider. So, it is up to the pilot to spot them VFR. Having flew enough, the only thing really identifying for that paraglider is the pink on the parachute. That helmet would be microscopic from distance, and that suit could easily be lost among the background. For a pilot to see that and react faster than closing distance is really unlikely. That said if this is a common paragliding launch point, the pilot should have checked. Though that info isn’t always published in NOTAMs and there may be no record of it outside the US. I’d say this is most likely purely accident, but I’m fairly certain the pilot had to perform emergency landing procedures as much as the paraglider. Hopefully the pilot is fine too. I’m glad the paraglider got back down safely.

The article I read made it seem like he saw her but there was no way to avoid her which I just find hard to believe given the ability of a plane to go kinda in a number of directions a car can’t go.

Aaand that’s why I don’t paraglide. That “oida! Aber i leb noch, des is die Hauptsache” in the end… (Roughly: F-Sake. But i’m alive, that’s the main thing) – she’s 🪓🪓slightly🪓🪓 mad at the pilot 🤷🏼‍♂️

    10. People saying this was intentional don’t know how hard it would be to do this on purpose, not to mention it’d be gambling with your own life.

This is 100% accidental. The pilot is lucky there was no critical damage to the plane or they’d likely be dead.

Imagine if the paraglider gear didn’t get ripped off and the plane dragged them behind

    12. It was almost exactly two minutes from collision to feet on the ground. I bet it felt like a lifetime!

People blaming the pilot and even saying it was maybe intentional is fucking wild.

    14. Thank God she’s safe! And I can’t believe how chill she was being about the whole thing

It should be mandatory that anything up there (except airborne troops in real missions) should be wearing a transponder.

The thing that got hit is a paraglider, her reserve is a parachute, Chutes main function is to slow your falling, gliders main function is to glide forward.
