      Context :

René Levesque was the premier of Quebec from 1976 to 1985. He was a sovereignist and Quebec nationalist. One of the laws his government passed made it possible for the First Nations of Quebec to go to school in their language. As a result, today 80% of indigenous quebecois can speak their language.

Lévesque was also premier during a dispute over fishing quotas with the Mi’kmaq. The dispute eventually escalated with the government sending riot police to dismantle fishing nets.
