Tbf to the person I’m subtweeting with this meme, the British weren’t the only ones who found them annoying, they pissed Washington off regularly.

It is in the blood of every child of Boston to be *really annoying*.

That’s basically guerilla warfare in a nutshell.
Be as big of a pain in the ass as possible that occupation becomes more trouble than it’s worth.

So named after their diet almost exclusively of hardtack, which led to some common refrains around the privy: “Just gimme a minute, man.”

Title is accurate. Washington knew destroying the military of the British Empire simply wasn’t possible. He was just trying to be disruptive enough that it simply wouldn’t be worth it for the British to keep fighting.

Weren’t those a completely different regiment from the Minutemen, they were called Sharpshooters and had their guns specifically designed to be more accurate

The main goal was that the British couldn’t just walk up to any town and occupy it, there would be resistance. So any bumfuck town would require a lot of resources for what it was worth, slowing down the British advance. Because they would either lose a good number of troops taking a relatively small town, or go around it and have a bunch of angry militiamen in their rear potentially wreaking havoc. Or go the third route and besiege a small town that really wasn’t worth the effort, but still kept a good number of troops occupied.

The Brits weren’t scared of fighting in the woods. They had elite light infantry regiments like Butler’s Rangers, as well as the Iroquois Confederacy on their side.

Armies march on their stomachs, and when a collapsed bridge or a little raid can keep supplies from coming on time, that can mean the difference between an army escaping, or the much bigger enemy army from catch them.

Even in the manner of being annoying they failed 70% of the time as at least having guns or ammo help.
Also no the milita was meant to win battles at least at the start. The continental army’s strategies early in the war intended to use rapid dispersed milita units to shore up the army at every battle lessening the need for a central army as local forces were meant to assist. However militas weren’t reliable enough to show up to battle on time many units just never showing up. They also weren’t disciplined enough to serve as line infantry often breaking rank early. Additionally most weren’t even equipped enough to serve as infantry as most milita regiments often didn’t even have enough guns to arm every solider often using tomahawks to supplement equipment. To top it all off its all inconsistent across every milita unit meaning whenever the army called for local support it was unreliable.

Oh no you misunderstand, these aren’t minutemen, these are *minute* men, they are very tiny, great for ambushes.
