reminds me of that clip where they put a robot crab in a crab colony and they immediately adopted him as their own a defended him against ray attacks.

Can’t believe the crab didn’t give the thumbs up back. Bit rude

    4. Can crabs actually form relationships like this? We have to be collectively anthropomorphizing this situation.

Many crab species physically stay near or hold onto mates, especially after molting when the female is vulnerable. A male may fight off threats because losing the female means losing reproductive success.

It’s a smooth box crab, they carry their mates and if there is danger will pick them up and run and hide them in the sand, then attempt to protect them if there’s a threat still.

    8. I can’t remember the name of them but I wonder if this is the species that has much bigger males, which catch females, pick them up and run away with them, and then forcefully mate/rape them

Although cute here, it’s precisely their famous bucket behavior.

    12. Crabs are legally protected from capture by fishermen if they can evidence that they are in relationship akin to that of married humans. They have more rights to their space in the water than humans do so the human has to vacate the area.

Sounds ridiculous, but it’s a get out claws.
