The way Internet Explorer and Firefox both dropped the ball is insane

It’s crazy how many times Microsoft can take their stolen monopoly and totally fuck it with management idiocy.

Wow maybe the enshittification of Google is just a simple lack of competition?

Edge is running behind despite their massive efforts to force it down the throats of windows users. Similar with Safari on Apple products, though not as intrusive.

Crazy seeing IE and Firefox both fall from grace, Chrome with Android OS is just too strong…

    6. I didn’t realize Firefox once held the plurality and nearly got the majourity at one point, though it makes some sense in hindsight.

    7. I wonder how it would look if you split Chrome into browsers that are based on it.

    8. Try brave, you will not regret it. Basically no difference just not Google and technocrat surveillance.

My adblock works in firefox. Chromium based browsers specifically block certain adblock execution routes.

I used to use chrome. Switched to firefox a couple years ago and have never had adblock difficulties on youtube or twitch again.

How is “Other” so dominant for a pie graph but we don’t know the name for it?

Firefox is hands down the best Android browser, and I have tried them all.

I hope Firefox keep living.  It’s been the unsung hero for over 20 years

    13. Opera just plugging away. The other browsers stole the idea of tabs from Opera. Prolly other stuff too.

    14. Mozilla forefox was born from Netscape which was acquired by AOL who open sourced the code if anyone is wondering what heppened to them. Microsoft started to bundle Internet explorer with its windows and why it grew so popular over Netscape.

Chrome is a cancer spread by google. They destroyed android and browser ecosystem just to push their ads. They fingerprint everything even if you use incognito you can still be tracked.

Firefox is the GOAT. Been using it since it came out and still using it today.

Any Orion users here? Supports Firefox and Chromium extensions on iOS, runs on WebKit…they’re getting Linux and Windows apps out soon.

Firefox is still the goat though.

    18. I remeber downloading opera on my old flip phones as it would bypass the parental controls baked into the phones browser (wasn’t something parents set up just default carrier settings).

Didnt matter that the porn was .3gp quality, i had an entire 65×65 pixel display to see some tiddies at my fingertips.

I’m surprised Edge is so low since it comes with windows and I assume plenty of people don’t bother changing it

Internet explorer users definitely did not unanimously switch over to edge when it was released. I remember fighting back against IE9 compatibility as late as 2021

Microsoft Edge only gets attention when someone wants to open a pdf file lol

    22. Does Apple still have a relative low market share or do users just don’t like Safari? Question from a Windows/Android user.

    23. RespectTheBall on

That’s interesting but I’m assuming it’s PC and Mac only? Safari on iPhone and iPad inevitably works better than Chrome when it comes to launching apps and other integration. Tried using Chrome for a while but swapped back. Apparently Chrome is “only” 40% on Android. Safari must have a bigger market share given the number of iPhones in circulation, particularly as a lot of ppl have a phone or tablet and no PC or Mac?

    24. Mr_Lumbergh on

This is a shame; our choices are down to FF and Safari at roughly 10% of the total, and Chrome + derivatives for the rest. That doesn’t bode well for an open internet.

Been using Brave for the last 6 months and wished I’d have switched sooner. For extra sensitive stuff it’s Mullvad’s browser.

    26. Chrome took away tab scrolling and there are few things I have loved as much as coming back to Firefox.

    27. Lordy… was it 30+ years ago that we were using Netscape? Even when Explorer came along, I stuck with Netscape until I think,1.0 (?) came along, and it was so bad, I went over to Explorer. But it never kept up, and Firefox was the young gun that came along, and it whipped the Llama’s ass. So I went back, as it were. A great browser back then, held on for as long as possible, and ultimately switched to Chrome, but FF is still my backup. Looks good and performs well today.

Yeah, IIRC Gates admitted he fucked up on the browser war.
