Wouldn’t you wanna do that home..? Granted you have a home but if you have glp money I expect you to have rent money

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sharps disposal like this outside of a doctor’s office/hospital, let alone in a grocery store.

My GLP-1 comes with a removable needle. Why not just throw the needle in the container and the base in the trash? That’s really odd.

Laundry detergent containers are also a good option if folks need to get rid of sharps. Put them in and close the lid then tape it shut. Keeps the garbage workers safe too.

These are supposed to be refrigerated and only taken once a week. Who is carrying them around to take at the grocery store?

    6. Grocery stores often have pharmacies and the bathroom is usually by it. I assume that’s what happened here. Plus grocery stores have employees who may need to take their medication at specific times.

Those pens are very infuriating to deal with. It’s the same pen for my migraine medicine and two fill a small sharps box. They also really hurt, I’d rather inject myself normally.

I’m betting this is someone emptying their sharps box. If they don’t live close to a place to dispose of them, they probably opted for this box.

I do mine after I get out of the shower, put the cap back on and we’re done. This is odd

Really nice of them to install that actually!

Idk why theyre discarding the glp1s in there, dont they have replaceable needles?

EDIT: sorry im thinking about ozempic, which come with replacement pen needles.

They *are* however, coming out with a new single pen injector for some glp1s, like zepbound. Im hoping it’ll come with replacement pen needles like ozempic does.

Make less plastic waste, and take less fridge space in the pharmacy

could probably all be from the same person, they may think that that’s the only place they know to dispose of them

Sometimes I’m /slightly/ tempted to do this with my Humira pens, because my city’s needle disposal is only open when im at work. But I know that’s not what these are for, so i just have two jumbo detergent jugs full of syringes in my room lol.

Wild that they’re this plentiful. I’ve looked into them and even if I could get my doc to write in to get me approved for them, I’m looking at like $400 a month. Drives me crazy.

    13. “Two shots and you protect yourself and everyone around you.”

      “Hell no.”

“A shot every week for the rest of your life and youre skinny.”

“I can take them at work, right?”

    14. For sure thought the auto injectors were considered safe and not needing a sharps container (or other thick container)

I think the one below the Wegovy is Humira which is definitely not a GLP-1 med

    16. Abbot_of_Cucany on

It looks like people have also dumped some of the empty multi-dose pens for Wegovy and Ozempic. Those don’t even need to go in a sharps container because they use detachable needles.

    17. This was brought up a few weeks ago. People saying these containers in parks and everywhere would be a great idea.

I said “Who is Going to Empty Them Regularly?”
Got downvoted for a few days until people finally asked themselves the same question and realized the issue…

I just recap and toss mine in the trash. There’s zero chance of them sticking anyone else.

    19. meganthedethdealer on

The manufacturer of Wegovy (novo nordisk) will mail you a free sharps disposal container that you ship back to them in the same box it came in. The shipping label is prepaid as well. Just in case anyone here could use that info. It’s a pretty large container

    20. skittleahbeebop on

All those auto injectors come with a cap to cover the needle again. There’s no need for a sharps container for them.

    21. I wonder how many times a worker got pricked while taking out the trash before the store decided to install this.

Insuline comes in those pens also. Someone who works there might be diabetic
