    1. China actually qualified in 2002, so India is carrying this entire handshake by themselves

I know china qualified once, but given their population size it’s negligible.

For India, I’d say one of the reasons is probably the dominance of Cricket. It’s so popular that it tends to overshadow other sports.

It’s almost as if soccer isn’t their most played sport. I know, very shocking, right?

Does anybody even care about fifa or soccer anymore? 💀💀

      About that.
China has indeed qualified for the world cup before. They made it to the 2002 world cup.

It’s another fact that they were slapped about in the group stage and ended up going out without scoring a single goal and conceding 9.

This post is kinda misleading (in a funny way) because the 2 countries that have 1b+ people are China and India….. also China qualified for the 2002 japan seoul wc

    8. It’s kinda hard to win when you have to do a Bollywood dance sequence before you shoot.

India technically qualified for the 1950 World Cup but the story goes FIFA refused to let them play barefoot so they didn’t gi

Population hardly ever matters if there’s no genuine push to improve players by investing in early talent. Sure, there’s cricket in India and table tennis in China but that’s a big part of their culture which doesn’t have that big of a worldwide competitive landscape.

    11. I thought the Chinese women’s team was really good? Or am I just being racist and it’s one of their neighbors?

Edit: it was Japan, China hasnt been good since 1999

India was invited to a world cup but were too broke to attend. They could either go play world cup or olympic and india chose olympic over WC. Won neither so…….🤷

China has played in the World Cup. As has North Korea.

      India hasnt

    14. India actually did in 1950 but their federation was short sighted and thought the Olympics were more important (to be fair, the World Cup was only around for 20 years by then and hadn’t played since 1938)

China did actually qualify and play in 2002 but that was more because Japan and Korea qualified as hosts and they were the “better” of AFC. It was obvious they would get their teeth kicked in.
