Had this situation pop up on the road the other day and it’s just baffling how many people are comfortable driving straight through a flashing red light.

    2. Technically, it just means *you* need to stop. The traffic from other directions may have a different signal.

Flashing red light = a stop sign for that lane. It doesn’t necessarily indicate that it’s a 4 way stop

Most of the time I see flashing reds paired with flashing yellows on the other lane of traffic

    4. Flashing red in front of you = stop sign.

Flashing yellow in front of you = yield sign.

    5. “Hey dumb Houston construction workers … don’t put the sign saying road closed next to the spot where the road is closed”

They should be aware of their audience, kids could read that etc.

After a hurricane in my area, lots of stoplights weren’t working. Some had flashing reds, others had no power at all. Didn’t matter though, every car went flying through those intersections at top speed with total confidence that everyone else was going to yield to them.

Sometimes people need it spelled out. Just like this. Red Forman was ahead of his time.

“Yeah but I want to go now and I am more important because I exist. You obviously don’t because I am not you.”

My town could have used one of these signs when a tornado took out power to a few traffic lights. People completely ignored them when they were off, but you’re still supposed to treat it as a 4-way stop

Oh man, in my town it’s the opposite problem.

We have a set of lights right next to a set of tracks. When a train goes by, the lights go blinky red.

Nobody goes. Everyone stays stopped. On all sides. _WHY_?!

Where I live people treat it like a stop sign, but only ONE car can proceed at a time. It’s crazy to watch 11 cars wait as a single car drives through.

We had a blackout a few years ago and it took me 2+ hours to drive around 8 miles because of it

There are so many places I want to put a similar sign!

Like when I leave work there are 2 right hand turn lanes, one for people getting on the freeway, and one for people going under the freeway. Some dipshit is always using the inside one and then doesn’t go right in red because the lanes going under the freeway are backed up. The lane to get on the freeway is clear but these jackasses block being able to turn because they are trying to end up in the wrong lane. Because they are in the wrong fucking lane. 😡

I would say on average 10% of drivers have no idea what the fuck they’re doing or are just immature (looking at you college kids who are all zooming around town)

Just in the past week, I’ve watched people driving half the speed limit in the far left lane, make right turns from the middle lane, drive-thru a left turn arrow that was clearly red, and my favorite was tailgating a trailer that had horses in it.

We can complain all we want, but assholes and bad drivers will continue to exist and there’s nothing we can do to stop it.

    15. Nearly got rear ended during a power outage, when all the traffic lights were completely off. In my state, this automatically makes them stop signs, but people would drive right through them without even slowing down. Guy behind me slammed on the brakes (even though I’d been slowing down), honked his horn, and then sped around me through the intersection, despite the fact that there was traffic from the side streets. I want to say that people need remedial drivers ed, but I know it’s just people being assholes.

    16. As if the intended targets of the sign can read words with more than 3 letters in them.

      Sign is assuming that

      A. People can read

      B. People know how to navigate a 4 way stop.

    18. I know where this is and I would certainly rather they finish setting up the light that has been blinking for weeks rather than see sanctimonious signs like this but that’s just me

    19. My city’s idiot traffic dept will make two-way stops at some intersections, so minor streets get a red flashing light and the larger street gets a flashing yellow. The problem is the red light side drivers don’t know this.

    20. Actually since you can’t see if the cross traffic has a flashing yellow or flashing red, the only thing you can be sure of is that YOU must come to a complete stop.
