Let’s just say, the trains that go through the south don’t always carry willing passengers.

    3. That’s like 75 years ago. I’m not really too surprised it would have happened in the 50s. Like, there was still segregation…

That is about 75 years ago. So i guess it is not too surprising that it could be a little dated with some terms.

    5. 1951. Only 75 years since this shit was acceptable enough to American society to be printed in a children’s book.

People act like this shit is ancient history.

Edit: wasn’t aware Thomas is a British product. Still fucked up.

    6. 27,342 days is roughly 75 years, which puts the book publication right around 1951. Classic Reverend Awdry era.

Wrong! It was the original book series “The Railway Series”. Not the modern day tv incarnations.

It was changed for later Book publishes.

It was 75 years ago. I lived in Alabama 40 years ago and heard that word very frequently.

Hell, If I went back there I’d probably hear it today

    9. Huh. Today I learned sesame Street isnt as old as I thought. But they’d sure give Thomas a run for their money if it started in the 40s.

Apparently my great grandmother once casually referred to the colour of her carpet as “n___er brown” and that was in the 1980s. I guess to that generation (born around the turn of the 20th century) the word wasn’t seen as anywhere near as offensive as it is today. Good thing times have changed

Bob the Builder built houses. Thomas built historical inaccuracies.

This is news. But as a big fan of the series, I’m not surprised that it was Henry

I mean sure but that was like what 75 years ago? It just wasn’t the same.

Who cares. It was almost a hundred years ago, and the author apologised.

Was pretty normal language in Britain back then. Can’t really judge stuff that old by modern standards.
