The Chairman of the RNC at the time (Mark Hanna) seemed to realize this from the beginning, being quoted as saying:
>”Don’t any of you realize that there’s only one life between that madman and the Presidency?”
I remember in the T.R. documentary, one of the talking heads said that he “carried McKinely’s policies the way people ‘carry out’ the garbage”.

To be fair, the pattern of every US president elected every 20 years dying in office was not noticed until 1940.
If you look hard enough, you can find coincidences in any topic that a superstitious person would think are intentional.
Sometimes I wonder if it was divine intervention because that one assassination unironically became one of the best things that ever happened to America. Roosevelt is one of the greatest presidents we ever had, and I don’t know a modern day president who tops him.
