It’s because when the engine is creating torque, it rotates slightly due to opposite and equal force pushing against the engine mounts. When it does, it will be aligned. It’s more important that it’s aligned when making power than when off or idling.
Exactly like my coffee grinder and espresso machine from Italy – It turned out like this…
The gearbox is on the right so it centre balances the weight.
A lot of engines are offset some to accommodate steering shafts, brake boosters, or awd/4wd drivetrain.
That would drive my OCD nuts! Just as well I don’t own one.
