    1. 1894 is an interesting year for famous births.

Gavrilo Princip was a Bosnian Serb student who assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir presumptive to the throne of Austria-Hungary, and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, in Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. The assassination set off the July Crisis, a **series of events that within one month led to the outbreak of World War I.**

**Gertrude Baines** was born in 1894 to former slaves in Georgia (the state). She lived to be the world’s oldest known living person on a steady diet of crispy bacon, fried chicken and ice cream and died in late 2009. She famously voted for Obama’s first term in 2008. Incredible that the daughter of former slaves was able to vote for the first black president.

Separately, Nikita Khrushchev was also born in 1894.

I saw someone pointing out the other day if you’re 100+ in present day you would have seen a lot of crazy things in your lifetime given how much happened during the 20th and 21st centuries.
