His whole claim to fame is pouring salt down his forearm and being a douchebag… not exactly a solid foundation to launch a career as a restauranteur.
Most reviews of his various places have been pretty bad.

I live in NYC. I’m used to NYC crazy prices. I spent $150pp at a 1star michelin restaurant the other day for LUNCH. I found the saltbae prices in Turkey insane…this was back when it was like 1:7 conversion and that seemed extremely generous to US tourists. I don’t get the appeal.

Went to his steakhouse in midtown Manhattan about 7 years ago. It was dogshit.
Turns out when your entire claim to fame can be condensed into a gif, it tends not to have much staying power professionally.
Pretty sure the whole world hates this guy. Everyone saw at wc 22 how he forced himself in the winning celebration. I mean literally everyone saw that final. If I would see his Restaurant in a random city, I would hope it is empty.
The food is mediocre at a stupid-high price point. Went to Nusr-Et in NY 2 years ago with my boss and some clients on the company’s dime and the entire experience was shockingly sub-par. Waited 45 min for a reservation, took over an hour for the food to come, and when it did arrive it was *fine.* Not good, not bad…my client laughed at the end and said we could have saved ourselves $3k by taking him to Outback, the food and service would have been better.
The whole point was sadism but eventually you get tired of it and you want a different kind of sadism.
My favorite delusional narcissistic quote of his, was that kids now want to grow up to be butchers rather than firefighters etc. because of him.

I walk past his one in London quite often and it is also always half empty.

Of course they don’t wanna eat there. It is expensive for no reason and the food is widely said to be mediocre at best. At least if you eat at Gordon Ramsey’s place the food is said to be very good, even if expensive.
I have been to this exact place 4 times and it was always packed, people are not going to eat a steak at 10am..
