Well we really are. I mean, if people cannot seem to see that for our legislative leaders, left and right alike, to work to keep the border off the ballot and out of the grubby hands of the voters, as they did for years if not decades, was a lot more like a coup than anything the Proud Boys engaged in, I don’t know what to tell you.
And for the Dems, when it became clear that this BS was not going to go unpunished, by the voters who cared greatly about the issue, instead of saying ok, we’ll shut that border down, as they certainly could have, to call Trump a racist… this wasn’t just dumb, or dishonest, it was antidemocratic. Those border voters had a right to some say in how it all works. That’s how democracy is supposed to be. Everybody gets a seat at the table of power.
You see — I understand, you’ve never heard of this before, never having had high school civics — there’s what we call a “marketplace of ideas.” A “marketplace of ideas.” And in this marketplace, people try to change one anothers’ minds. That’s what the Dems should have done, if they preferred to keep the border open, rather than shutting it down as the border voters requested. They should have explained why they wanted open borders and just how beneficial it was for us. (I actually believe that I understand how beneficial it was for us, so there’s no need to explain it to me.)
I’m not a border voter, and I don’t hold their views. But I think it is WAYYYY more antidemocratic to refuse to even try to explain the situation, and to instead call political competitors who disagree with you names.
And PS: Jan 6 was not an insurrection. It was an attempt to steal ONE ELECTION — when gerrymandering and the Electoral College are widely approved, widely supported techniques for stealing them all.
Good job on how y’all handled the crisis of democracy that you all created. Well done.

I mean, coups can be bloodless. Plenty of times, they’re carried out through backroom deals.
But it was not. There was no major shift in power
Yet Jan 6 was a fascist insurrection comparable to Beer Hall Putsch. For that there can be no mercy. We witnessed what happened last time
