      I’d get rid of the NFL, MLB, and NBA, sell all the stadiums and anything associated with it to fund healthcare or schools

      I know it’s hard for some people to understand this, but sports bring communities together that have an undying love for their team. NFL owners will sinisterly use this against them to hold cities hostage for new stadiums (see Buffalo). The citizens would rather up their taxes than risk losing their beloved team.

      Really it’s just a lesson of the evils of capitalism. But there are bigger fish to fry than NFL teams… AI companies getting tax breaks and government contracts to spy on us, private corporations profiting off the deportation of innocent people, data centers draining our limited water supply. There are much worse uses for tax revenue than NFL stadiums

      If doctors and children would violently tackle each other for my amusement then perhaps I’d consider advocating for their financial support. My cardiologist hasn’t ever broken off a 20+ yard rush. Not once in his entire career. Absolutely useless.

      Why in the fuck should tax money pay you 80 grand a year for the rest of your life when you retire as a teacher at 54 and in the 30 years that you worked you never worked more than half of the days in the year?

      Because stadiums are one of the few things that people enjoy that the Government is willing to spend on because of business, even if you say no to the stadium you probably don’t get anything you listed anyway so might as well have a stadium

      When I see what they do with the money we spend on schools and hospitals I’d just as soon it go to a stadium.

      This isn’t a USA thing. It’s worldwide humanity thing that goes back to antiquity, including ancient Rome and Greece. Check out what other countries spend on football/soccer stadiums…

      Think of the number of dollars that it would take you to vote for this as a city council member. The fact that you(it’s okay, you don’t have to admit it) and everyone else has a number is the reason this happens.

      I’m sure there’s a lot of people that genuinely think they are incorruptible, but I think they’re suffering from a lack of imagination.

      You can have all three of those things without needing anyone to do it for you. Many people already have a pension/retirement fund, healthcare, and live in good school districts. They have those things because they went and got a job that allows them to.

      Right. At least NFL stadiums aren’t built using the same methods as, for an example, Qatar did for their FIFA Stadium.

      People like entertainment. Dumb people like entertainment even at the expense of other things. Rich people know they can provide bread and circuses to keep the dumb people in line. This isnt just american; poor countries will build futboll stadiums when they don’t even have functioning hospitals.
