Well he did put a hell of a fight. But did not help him much in the end, did it?
Some even claim that he was even assasinated in 1718 by swede tired of “cowabunga it is”.
Ironically he loved hunting bears, very fitting for the man who would invade Russia

Charles indeed was a great general, but sure an awful war planner. After basically winning the war, instead of signing peace he decided to fully crush his opponents, which had much bigger population and stronger economy, he also absolutely forgot about Russia, giving Peter time to rebuild his army, which eventually led to his defeat

[Great Northern War – Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Northern_War)
In the **Great Northern War** (1700–1721) a coalition led by [Russia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsardom_of_Russia) successfully contested the supremacy of [Sweden](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swedish_Empire) in [Northern](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northern_Europe), [Central](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Europe) and [Eastern Europe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_Europe). The initial leaders of the anti-Swedish alliance were [Peter I](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_the_Great) of Russia, [Frederick IV](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_IV_of_Denmark) of [Denmark–Norway](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark%E2%80%93Norway) and [Augustus II the Strong](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustus_II_the_Strong) of [Saxony-Poland-Lithuania](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_union_of_Poland_and_Saxony). Frederick IV and Augustus II were defeated by Sweden, under [Charles XII](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_XII), and forced out of the alliance in 1700 and 1706, respectively, but rejoined it in 1709 after the defeat of Charles XII at the [Battle of Poltava](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Poltava). [George I of Great Britain](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_I_of_Great_Britain) and the [Electorate of Hanover](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electorate_of_Hanover) joined the coalition in 1714 for Hanover and in 1717 for Britain, and [Frederick William I](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_William_I_of_Prussia) of [Brandenburg-Prussia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandenburg-Prussia) joined it in 1715.
