Would one giant kite not be more cost effective than the 23 sails in the picture?

The golden age of piracy was 300 years ago. I know it’s a meme but damn.

Are you still yapping with your anti-intellectual, faux-history bullshit?

Old idea, but better execution. If the sail goes higher up it can catch stronger winds. Can’t go too high though or we have to start worrying about flight paths.

Kitesails have a pulling force up to 27 times that of traditional sails, in part because they tap into stronger, steadier winds at altitude of 300 meters or more.
In the context of heavy cargo vessels, they can largely just reduce fuel usage by 10-20%.

Further cut down on carbon emissions by using galley slaves. Chain them to the oars, they eat, sleep, shit and die at the oar. Every death is 4.8 metric ton Co2 X-potential years cut short. Not to mention fuel consumption reduction.
