I love reading about Anglo-Indian wars in the 18th century, since they were happening at a time where the scientific method and first Industrial Revolution had given the East India Company just enough hubris to fuck around, but also their technological advantage was just small enough that it’s hilarious to see the “find out” stage.
It always makes me think the EIC were expecting to pull up like Hernán Cortés and topple an empire in an afternoon with their cannons, only for the local Indian rulers to go “You do realise we also have cannons right? And elephants? And home base advantage?”
