They really went to Spain for the conquest and stayed for the recessive genes.

The Umayyad caliphs were often mothered by European concubines. At least one is known to have darkened his skin and dyed his hair because he was blonde with blue eyes.
I mean when you spend centuries there and keep “marrying” locals you eventually start looking like a local and become one of them, i don’t know how hard it is for people to conceive of a “Caucasian” caliphs, like Islam is ethnoreligious group or the second you convert to Islam Allah cast “race change” on you, the reason Islam and Christianity was so successful is because they’ll let literally anyone join the religion.

The Ottomans had quite a few European concubines and aa a result ended up looking quite European themselves. Although of course many Turks are basically indistinguishable from Europeans (at least of the Balkan/Mediterranean kind) anyway.

They were “arabs” in a land geographically european even if at the medieval time, it was part of the arabo-islamic world. But if you ask about genetical point of view it’s a different approach…quite simply.
Moreover, we know that some had mothers from indigenous families of the Iberian Peninsula, but in any case, even on a genetic level, there were local populations in certain areas that did not have exactly the same genetic profile as the current Spanish and Portuguese populations, so there you have it, let’s say it’s a complex subject that is quite poorly understood by the general public.
Arab is an ethnicity, the ethnicity is mainly a cultural point. Furthermore, people at that time did not have the same views and notions as some that exist today; for example, there was no “European identity” during the medieval period. People from a geographical territory may have felt distinct from other populations, but current notions about “what is a European,” “what is an Arab,” etc., should not be projected onto this period because it is anachronistic and distorts understanding.
