I mean, i think thats the expectation. Its a form factor that you can easily carry anywhere and includes everything you need besides a mouse/controller maybe. For all it matters its just a simpler and lighter dektop pc, the expectation is you will be plugged in when gaming.

    2. As someone who’s played GTAV, Helldivers 2, BeamNG.Drive, Arma Reforger, and Ready or Not on a gaming laptop.

I can confirm that they rely on chargers more than an addict relies on meth

Meanwhile PC when you unplug it.

Portable to places with outlets. Like a friend’s place. Which desktops are not uness you wanna put your case on like a trolley and parade it through the streets.

      This is obvious, right?

the portability is about having to move a lot, not about carrying it around to game

I have already seen this crap other sub stop

    7. It’s mobile in the sense that you carry it around and plug it in somewhere else pretty easily. They aren’t office laptop where you just plop them down on a coffee table to work on microsoft word.

Lightweight OS + Game streaming: no problem.

I mean you do need a stronger desktop at home to stream from, and some wifi… But yeah, works pretty well, even for non-gaming laptops.

      Or….you know… Steam Deck?

The point of them is to be easier to move to a different place and then plug in. Or to use them as a normal laptop unplugged. Nobody is gaming with an unplugged gaming laptop, that’s not what they’re made for.

This is why I’m replacing the GPU on my laptop with an oculink.
If I’m cursed to be tethered, I shall have a tether that’s better

Mine has been running for 6+ years now and I can still play new games, obviously not on ultra or anything.

My anecdotal drawback to the laptop is that the heat vent gets so hot that it literally busted the plastic binding that held the screen together. It just came apart at the seam, and closing the laptop cracked the screen slightly (large visible Crack running along the bottom 2% of the screen now, oh well).

So I’m unable to open/close it, it just stays open now, and it’s held together with duct tape, but I can still play Diablo 4 and Helldivers so I’m feeling alright. It was a great 800$ investment when I could no longer afford gaming PCs.

I don’t have a place for a desktop PC but can place my laptop anytime on our table in the living room.

They don’t overheat when they’re unplugged they just drain the battery super fast. Misinformation.

‘s why i always bring a cooling pad with me.
But even then, good luck getting any meaningfull playtime out of the battery.

Its almost like graphics rendering is one of the most power intensive functions for a computer. Who couldve guessed!?

That was one compromise I had to make when I bought my first gaming laptop and I don’t regret it! If I sit down for gaming, more often than not, there’ll be a power socket. Unless there’s a powercut…

Just dont buy a gaming laptop I guess, thats what I have done. Got an old m1 macbook air for its peak portability and a desktop that I occasionally upgrade. Still dont understand the use of a gaming laptop. And I dont find the mac lacking either as it effortlessly runs my flightsim at high graphics

Okay I don’t want to get too involved but everytime I see these posts I’m like..do yall really take your laptop on the bus to game ?

(Pre steam deck) I travel a lot and use mine all the time at hotels , or maybe if I have extreme layover times at an airport and I can plug in at the lounge

    19. Im always going with a lapotp incase i want to bring it with me on a trip or move it when guests come over but it ends up sitting on a cooling pad not moving till the intel sticker melts off and i get a new one .

    20. My last gig got us Dell Latitudes with i7s, 32gb ram, 3060ti, and 4k touch screen displays for the engineering teams. I was at a workshop with my boss and our laptops died halfway through the class. For some reason Top Golf Doral has conference rooms with no f’n power outlets in it.

    21. Johnnyboi2327 on

Sure, but most places where you’d wanna play on a gaming laptop you can find outlets to plug it in. The fact is you can toss a laptop and cord in a bag and go really easily, but you can’t with a desktop. The desktop needs a table as well, while a laptop is very easy to just have in your lap.
