As a non medical professional this might be a dumb question.But can’t you be both in critical and stable? Like it is very serious and dangerous but at the time of reporting not actively getting better or worse ?

Stable is not a condition. Every journalist learns this their first day in the newsroom. Stable just means they aren’t getting worse. Or better. You can be pretty screwed up and still be stable.
