56 years ago today- these 4 students at Kent State University in Ohio were shot and killed during a rally opposing the expanding involvement of the Vietnam War into Cambodia by US military forces, as well as protesting the National Guard presence on campus and the draft. May 4, 1970 [400×504]

    1. It’s a good thing we learned our lesson about unnecessary wars in the 1970s.

Schroeder wasn’t even at the protest, he was just walking to his next class. (He was also ROTC for fucks sake).

Tin soldiers and Nixon’s comin, we’re finally on our own…

    3. How brainwashed do you have to be to shoot students who are your own countrymen?

They were just kids. Schroeder wasn’t even protesting (as if that excused these murders).

11 days later there was a shooting at Jackson State that no one remembers. Two more students died, a whole dorm was riddled with bullets and multiple people injured. The cops picked up all the bullets and walked away.

I just watched a Devo documentary and was interested to learn that this event had huge influence on Devo’s philosophy and worldview, as future members of the band were Kent State students at the time.

Jeffrey Miller is the student lying dead on the ground in the very famous photo from that day.

    8. What really gets me is two of these kids weren’t even protesting. They were just walking to class

    9. Considering the same almost happening in the student protests against the genocide happening in Palestine, I see nothing had changed.

Just the same brutality and hate
