S1-3 have a significantly better color palette, whereas s4 uses designs more in-line with the source material. It really killed the mood when I saw how bright everyone was, especially because Rias in s4 now doesn’t match Issei’s description from s1e1 (her hair being comparable to blood).

Let me tell you guys something you need to hear
“But the new artstyle follows the LN art better” is not the argument you think it is. Most LN starts off as unknown and unpopular unless its from a well known author so most authors at the time are broke so they have to settle with cookie cutter artstyle for their LN so anyone who defends how the new artstyle is cannon is defending cookie cutter, run of the mill, borne out of being broke artstyle with barely any shading and only line art.

But S1 2 and 3 art looks like the old style what is still better with more depth then today art style.
