I was thinking about that man just the other day but for another reason.
I like his biography, he was the smartest guy in the modern linguistic world that he could decipher the language behind Maya scriptures…but publishers didn’t respect his cat enough to include its name in the authors’ name list, so, he withheld his findings and didn’t release the papers until they stopped removing his cat’s name from the list.
We almost lost a revolutionary and earth shaking discovery because some pair of idiots couldn’t look past a cat and list it down as a harmless honorific mention.
(Yeah, I am also linguistic-adjacent and my cat is basically my project manager at this point…she accompanied me while I was investigating some background information for a translation and translating that document.)
