clearly, if they wanted to make a 2×4 actually be 2 inches by 4 inches, they could. They have the technology. They just don’t want to give up that .5 inch, in either direction.

edit: yeah knew it was something like that, as explained below…. I just always felt that the finished product could be labeled more accurately

I dont get it. Why rotate the trunk in the middle of the process? You could get the largest board from the trunk that could be used anywhere, for hi end countertop for example.

I can’t believe I watched that whole thing. I wonder how the machine chooses what size to cut each time…I noticed it made planks of varying shapes and sizes rather than going for one type of uniform plank.

One of those planks are hella expensive for how fast they are made

Me sitting here reverting to a child thinking…

I can’t believe I watched the whole thing from start to finish. I mean, I knew what was going to happen next anyway, but damn… satisfying af

    9. Worked for a bit in a mill that was still running on ’70s machinery. It took three people running different machines (and probably 3x more time) to process a log like this. This efficiency is baffling to me!

With today’s lumber prices, I wonder how much money all that cut wood is worth.

I wish I could work there. I LOVE the small of cut wood and sawdust. Has to be amazing!

I want to see it being cut into plancks. I bet the footage would be explosive

      And kids, that’s how they can ensure a 2 x 4 is precisely 1 1/2 x 3 1/2

I have memories of Soldier Barracks, level 11 of Pandemonium

(and the rural sawmill where my father works, incidentally)
