These helmets were sent from warehouses in Germany at the end of the war after they were seized by the Americans in December 1918 in Koblenz, spelled Coblenz at that time, Germany. They were intended to be used for German victory marches into Paris and manufactured by C.E. Juncker of Berlin in 1916.
The exhibition, known as “Victory Way,” was located just above Grand Central Terminal on Park Avenue and opened in April 1919. The helmets were meant as an incentive to help raise money for the 5th war loan. A helmet was given to you if you made a large contribution.

I’m quite certain some of these helmets wound up in the hands of an art dealer based in Manhattan.
