    1. Boudica is an example of a historical figures being uplifted based on narrative importance and asthetics rather than any real merit.

She sacked 3 undefended towns and got folded by an army a third ghe size of her own.

“Bro trust me she’s a bad, i know all the accounts we have of her is from romans you know the same people who were trying to kill her but obviously they were very honest, there definitely not propoganda involved “

      1. All the hostile sources are from the romans – the guys trying to kill her.

      2. The romans provoked the war by raping her daughters and not abiding by the agreement with her husband.

      3. She was fighting to free Britain from Roman imperialism – its not hard to see why Britain would like a fighter who fought to try and free Britain is it?

The irony of an anti imperialist becoming the symbol of the British Empire.

you are taking historic accounts from rome who purposely vilified those who stood against them usually in the most slanderous ways possible to make them seem weaker than they were, this slander extended to their own bad emperors and local leaders to a point where we don’t even know how some dynasties were actually ruled.

She killed other brits!?!! I’m from the UK and I NEVER learned this in school

she was pushed as sone feminist icon when I was at school, but the we spent about 3 months on womens sufferage then another 2 on the Titanic.

history class at my school in the early 00s was a joke, at least at my school. If you didnt do your own research you left at 16 thinking WW2 was just England and America VS Germany after Germany had taken over Europe and at no point was the British Empire ever mentioned

Even assuming that scale is accurate, that practice is not unique to her

Seal clubbing, targeting civilians, logistics, and anyone who couldn’t fight back but who was important to ur opponent was the default method of warfare for a long time

Ud be a lousy leader if ur first option to complete ur objective was to seek a fair and extremely risky fight with an opponent that was as good or better than u

U want to win? Go for the most unfair and low risk options

The argument made in medieval literature was that u end the war quickly, prevent more catastrophic damage and have therefore done a praiseworthy thing. U absolutely wrecked the plebs but so what

-This meme made by Tacitus the Roman, our only source for most of ancient Britain.

I mean, I’m pro Boudicca over being pro-occupation and conquest.

I’ll (almost) always be pro people fighting to get an occupying force out of their country

    12. SameIdea70 on

What do you mean by Britons? The roman settlers or the people in her army

    13. SeriousFinish6404 on

“What a loser, getting mad because the Roman’s raped her daughters.”

Boudica is kinda justified in some aspects.

    14. SuspiciousUnion3286 on

Despite her best efforts, she could not match Rome’s general kill count, so she had to pick a category where she could actually compete.

    15. Of all the incredibly specific historical hyperfixation greivences I’ve seen on this sub this just might be the most incredibly specific historical hyperfixation greivence of them all.

    16. Cravatitude on

Kinda weird to count people killed in a revolution against an occuping empire as her victims, like counting the Nazis killed on the eastern front as victims of communism, it smells of ideology.

      Don’t know what is funnier
      – big ovesimplified in meme
      – also big oversimplified in anti-rome comments
      – fact that Boudica’s tribal support Rome in early invasion and together make war crimes against other Brits

    18. Joebirdy92 on

Ah yes the classic colonialism and slavery are okay when the Romans do it post
