    1. The tragedy is that this was never reported as obvious mental illness in real time.

    2. Lol, this guy was caught with sex workers in the Lone Star Motel off Airline Hwy in Metairie, LA on Feb 29. This has lead to the local Hash House Harriers kennel hosting a Jimmy Swaggart Hash every Feb 29, which starts and ends at the motel.

The Jimmy Swaggart college still stands in Baton Rouge, even though it’s been abandoned for quite some time.

Sadly the Motel was demolished recently.

    3. Swaggert snitched about Marvin Gorman’s affairs, so Gorman surveilled Swaggart, and found him with a prostitute. Gorman even gave him a chance and he blew it.

      >Swaggart’s first prostitution scandal occurred in retaliation for an incident in 1986 when he accused fellow Assemblies of God minister Marvin Gorman of having several affairs. Gorman was defrocked from the Assemblies of God, and his ministry was all but ended.[28] Gorman filed a successful lawsuit against Swaggart for defamation and conspiracy to ruin his reputation; he was awarded damages amounting to $10 million in 1991.[29] After an appeal, the parties settled the matter for $1.75 million.[30]

      >As a retaliatory measure, Gorman hired his son Randy and son-in-law Garland Bilbo to watch the Travel Inn on Airline Highway in Metairie, a suburb of New Orleans.[31] At the Travel Inn, the two men photographed Swaggart outside Room 7 with Debra Murphree,[22][32] a local prostitute. Gorman arrived at the Travel Inn a short while later and confronted Swaggart.[33]

      >According to Swaggart: The Unauthorized Biography of an American Evangelist, Gorman secured a promise from Swaggart that he would publicly apologize to Gorman and begin the process of Gorman’s reinstatement to the Assemblies of God. Gorman offered to remain silent if Swaggart would publicly say that he lied about Gorman’s affairs. Gorman waited almost a year, then hand-delivered a note to Swaggart informing him that his time was up; Swaggart did not respond. On February 16, 1988, Gorman contacted James Hamil, one of the 13-man Executive Presbytery of the Assemblies of God, to expose Swaggart’s assignation with the prostitute.

Grieving is one thing. Grieving in a highly public way, lying in the middle of the aisle, makes it more about her.

    5. There is a plaque at Clark’s Auto Truck Stop in Indio, California on old US 99 which reads “Jimmy Swaggart picked up a “date” here on October 11, 1991″. The joke being that Indio is the “Date Capital of the World” in reference to date palms, which are all over that part of the Coachella Valley.

To me, it’s giving, “My favorite singer got married, noooooo, now I can never have him, I will never get over this heartbreak.”

It’s just a ton of inappropriate emotional enmeshment with a supposed caretaker/shepherd/spiritual leader, IMO.

If my doctor admitted to being a cocaine addict, I’d have deep concerns about the state of my health as a result of his care, and I’d find a new provider. I wouldn’t throw myself onto the exam table sobbing.

I guess it’s a cult mentality that people are more likely to fall into with a spiritual practitioner than with a medical practitioner. I guess because there are laws about being permitted to practice medicine while religion is the essential oil of wellness.

He was later caught with another prostitute and told his congregation “the Lord told me it’s flat none of your business”.
