This is very niche but years ago there was a person in the Presidents of the United States of America (the band not the political figures) fandom who had a massive archive of their demos, live shows, studio offcuts etc.
They were obsessively protective of them and would only “trade” access to certain files in exchange for tracks they didn’t have.
Inevitably someone traded with them and then released all the files themselves and the person was LIVID like they’d been betrayed by someone allowing other fans access to this material.
It was bonkers.

In 2019 Radiohead got hacked and some of their unreleased demos their multitracks from OK Computer stolen and held ransom. So they said fuck it, remastered it real quick and rereleased it on bandcamp and included the demos in the 2019 OKNOTOK remaster.

he flexed them a few years back and put them away and never did anything with them SINCE
and it makes me so fucking mad because thats not videogame preservation at all, we could have so much more from the first game, hell maybe someone competent enough could make an unofficial pc port if we had earlier files + code to reference (since borman currently sits on a PC DEV BUILD!!)

I have a friend who owned a recording studio and recorded George Thorogood before he had a record deal. Those recordings are phenomenal and way better than what I’ve heard from him before, which is honestly just what was played on the radio.
Anywhoo… he’s afraid to do anything with them out of fear of being sued, but I think it would be cool if it was released

I will never forgive the game collector who obtained a dev cartridge of Panel de Pon for the Nintendo 64. This dude showed off a video of it online, and when asked by people in the community to have them assist in preserving it, they just deflected and made excuses.
Last I heard, the collector might’ve sold it to someone else, but they’ve been silent for years, so who knows.I hope it’ll see the light of day someday.
