      In case anyone’s wondering, Yamaguchi was at Hiroshima when it got nuked. Then he went home… to Nagasaki. Yamaguchi was explaining his experience in Hiroshima to his boss when, mid-conversation, Nagasaki got nuked. Despite being hibakusha twice over, Yamaguchi shockingly made it to *96 years old*. Only dying in 2010 of stomach cancer, whether that had anything to do with his double nuking is unclear.

      However before he died Yamaguchi was able to make the Japanese government acknowledge his status as a double survivor of nuclear bombing, the only person to do so. It’s unknown whether that’s the result of Japan’s stubbornness in acknowledging hibakusha or if it’s just that Yamaguchi was the only person to be so unlucky.
