This is probably one of the pettiest yet funniest antisemitic manifest from a nation.
“Yeah, we made a special part of our country so the Jews can live… IT’S IN **MANCHURIA**”
Like yeah bro we get the hint, next time send us to the North Pole or something, maybe then we are even closer to literally any other civilized land than to proper Russian urban centers.

For some weird reason the Jewish Autonomous Oblast has almost no Jewish people living there anymore (867 in the 2021 Russian census)

“Jewish Autonomous Oblast”
*looks inside*
Only 0.6% of its population are ethnic Jews

The crazy thing is that antisemites think that we’re not only all from Russia or Germany or Poland, but that we should’ve absolutely just stayed in this “Jewish Autonomous Oblast.”
(I’m sure this thread will be very civil and full of people who know a lot about Jewish history and totally won’t make this about Israel.)

From outside looking in, and from first perspective. the Jewish Autonomous Oblast seems to be a lot more fertile and hospitable than the hot and arid Levant. Right across the Amur, it looks like the PRC has productive farming operations.
Then again, I don’t have any information on climate (winter is probably hella cold) or soil conditions.

For anyone curious how Jews viewed this at the time, it was pretty much “oh look, another ghetto”.
Hell, there’s a pretty interesting history around the idea of a “Judenstat” going back a few hundred years at least. Part of the reason that the modern nation of Israel was founded (or ceded or whatever depending on your prevailing feelings) was out of a mild suspicion by major world leaders that Jews really *did* run the world. Not that *we* believe that, of course, but, ya know, just in case. We should be on their good side.

I’m sorry but that province looks like the Nurburgring.

Wasn’t there a large Jewish community in Vladivostok and up the Amur valley?

Why isn’t this oblast given to the Palestinians as a gesture of goodwill?

[January 11, 1959: JEWS’ RESETTLING BY SOVIET IS SEEN : r/NewsForJews](https://www.reddit.com/r/NewsForJews/comments/1s2rtja/january_11_1959_jews_resettling_by_soviet_is_seen/)
The first Jewish state is still standing and alive. Strangely, a flag almost identical to their [rainbow flag](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_Autonomous_Oblast#/media/File:Flag_of_the_Jewish_Autonomous_Oblast.svg) has become the LGBT flag in America. It’s probably a little sad that they can’t use their flag in America because it has different meanings there. It could be a small gift from the second Jewish state.
