“People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf” – Grenier paraphrasing Orwell

John Brown’s the most overrated person in American history, and the dickriding needs to fucking stop.

Harper’s Ferry was a fool’s errand that wouldn’t have changed much had it not occurred, and the Radical Republicans were the most effective in ending Slavery. Thaddeus Stevens and Charles Sumner are the ones you should be glazing, not John Brown.

Pacifism consist on using violence only against the aggresor and protesting against any war that exist upon the idea of indluencing, conquering or puppeteering another nation.

However there are also people that are naive with that same pragmatism inherent to that political philosophy and other people that try to use pacifism as a psy-op to neutralize any reaction against an aggression.

I.e. when Russia attacked Ukraine, some political movements went to the street claiming stuff such as “No to the war!” with “No to the NATO!”. Not to say they were assets, but they were doing exactly what an aggresive militaristic power would wish: non-action.

      >I must study politics and war, that our sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. Our sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history and naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry and porcelain. -John Adams

“Pacifism is a noble way of life…but it only makes sense when it’s the strong who practice it”

By this logic, Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King would be fascists. And if you say “Yes, they are”, then I want nothing to do with you.

I’m by no means a pacifist. But nuance is important.

Edit: Apparently you’re so dedicated to “praxis” that you’re more than ready to slander major human rights leaders. None of you are revolutionaries.

Pacifism is a privilege enjoyed only by those who live in countries with good neighbors.

Its hard to be a pacifist when your neighbors run by fascists.

Selective quotation, taken out of context + Orwell later disagreed with the quote
