“Reinforces racist and stereotypical thinking” That thought process is out of touch. It’s the museum visitors job to critically analyze the very real objects in front of them.

Ironically that is extremely eurocentric. Not al cultures and peoples have such taboos around the dead/corpses. The Dayak are awesome (and very hospitable) people who collected the heads as trophies to be celebrated! Same with Andean mummies, they were often supposed to be displayed.

I get that there were issues with stuff like the Lake Mungo remains for example, but every instance should be examined and treated individually depending on the culture and origin.l

One minor quibble with the post title: ‘Dayak’ is an umbrella term for around four million people, and so shouldn’t be used to specify a tribe. From Wikipedia:

      > The Dayak […] are the Austronesian ethnic groups native of Borneo. It is a loose term for over 200 riverine and hill-dwelling ethnic groups, located principally in the central and southern interior of Borneo, each with its own dialect, customs, laws, territory, and culture, although common distinguishing traits are readily identifiable.
