Both sides is dead. It was never true. “Oh my God, both sides are crazy” is a conservative frame. Its Bill Maherism: “I’m above it all, there is no social contract, the government and the Constitution exist for me to do whatever I want”.
Well, that was what most people said during the Civil Rights era and they did not help at all. Today they walk around as if racism has been solved. So when legitimate issues arise, its “oh my God, people are too crazy” again.
And what’s really funny is most of them already have ethical systems that tell them that humans are far from perfect, in fact they’re filled with sin. It’s why many people consider religion, hypocrisy and conservatism completely interchangeable words now.

This is something I struggle with a lot. There are significant portion of people in each Democrat and Republican side who literally view the other side as enemy. Like not frenemies, go to war and kill them if they could type enemy. Where do you even go from here as a country?
