My iron infusion IV looks like Diet Coke

My iron levels were extremely low, single digit, so I had to get infusions.

The infusion helped a ton but it was an absolute trip watching the black/brown IV liquid go into my arm.

    2. So funny story about iron if you didn’t know… 👀 🍿

For context: On my second infusion they unknowingly missed my vein, then after 5-8 minutes I told my mom: “it’s kinda burning and doesn’t feel right…?” We noticed my lower arm near the crook of my arm was bubbling up, so we pinched it off and shouted for a nurse. They turned the machine off and took it out, found a new spot, and i completed the infusion.

BUT! Where that iron had went under my skin? I had a golden-brown mark on my arm for the next 8 years until it finally faded away a year or so ago lol.

How’d it taste?  When I’d get my iron at dialysis I always knew, even if I was asleep or not paying attention cause I suddenly tasted maple syrup.

    4. Next time print a diet coke sticker and well ask if the doc/nurse can place it on the bag before the needle attaches

    5. I’d…I’d bring a magnet and play with the bag and get chastised by a nurse 100%

Are these like…. literally tiny irons? Have u tried to put a magnet on the bag to see what happens?

    7. I’m Irish, when I was 14 there was a boy in my class in school with an iron deficiency, his medical prescription was a pint of Guinness every 3 days.
Another friend worked in the pub where he “fulfilled his prescription” and it was apparently quite funny

Anyway, this looks exactly like that; but less fun.

Hope you’re not tasked with guarding any omega level mutants.

I had to have an iron infusion with my last pregnancy because ferritin level was at 11.

That’s how I found out I was allergic to iron dextran. I’m pregnant, huge and so very very tired. I had no idea anything was going on. This girl getting her own infusion l next to me starts yelling for a nurse to check me. The nurse asked me from a distance helping someone else if I was ok. I said yeah, I think so. The girl said, no she’s not, look at her face.

I’ve never before had anything in my vein I was allergic too. While I was like 7 months pregnant. That was a wild ride…

    10. Y’all can have some of mine. Hemochromatosis. 450ml of blood taken every three months to reduce iron levels!

I’ve had a few of these bastards and they hurt every time. No matter what they do to mitigate it, God I fucking hate being anemic
