    1. This is not giving Ellis his due, he had at least some history of being affable and had been successful at some stuff in his negotiation history – he just ended up dealing with Mr. Gruber and company badly.

      One gets the sense JDV has no such track-record. He’s Peter Theil’s sock-puppet.

      We could only be so lucky that Vance negotiates like Ellis. The ending would be proper.

    3. the greatest joke in the whole movie is the terrorist handing him a can of coke, and his look of utter confusion accepting it

      Ellis was a pretty good negotiator though, he just didn’t recognize how in over his head he was until it was too late.  He was too overconfident, although we can blame cocaine for that.  Coke makes everything seem like a good idea.

      Vance would definitely sell out anyone decent, but I’m not sure he knows anyone decent

    7. The funniest part of that scene is Ellis asks for coke, and they give him a can of coke.
