A lot of the crazy, drunken orgies and priapises, and all the bacchanalia aside, fun as they can be, it’s really nice to just see an ordinary (if exceptional and special) scene of daily life like this in Ancient Greek ceramic!! I love everything that give us a really clear sense of what life was actually like in these ancient days, as opposed to all the recreations we could ever attempt. Here is the real thing!! Sure, it’s stylized and it’s probably idealized, but it’s still made in a relatively unbiased way by the actual representatives of the culture itself, concurrently. I know, I’ve probably said it before, but this is what makes me marvel at archaeology…It’s those moments when you really can peer beyond the veil of time and see a tiny, perfect timecapsule, almost like the most authentic photograph of our ancient past that is possible.
