    1. People also forget that England was always poised to strike France down because Charles diplomatic ventures in London did gave fruits. France was completely isolated, her economy was not as good as it was on paper (Francis I bought the Eastern Roman Emperor title from Constantine Paleologos (his father Andrea already sold it to every european monarchy, btw, historians debates if he wanted just the money or to pull up as much chaos as possible with these moves) in Rome, tried to corrupt German electors with tons of silver, only to be clowned by the Diet when he presented his claim of strenght as Eastern Roman Emperor, then Charles was elected.

The entire western european sphere was against France. Francis used desperate methods because Charles was really on the cusp of re-establishing the Western Roman Empire for real, and France was there for pickings.

Well, at this time, dont forget that france was involved in some imperialist wars in italy too.
France / Hasburgs rivalries were more about competition between 2 empires than just hasburgs seeking to destroy France.

They were so isolated that they ended up signing an alliance with the ottoman.

Poor Charles, truly the victim of geography. How dare France exist right in the middle of his empire?
