American peace activist Rachel Corrie, lies bleeding while being helped by colleagues after she was run over and killed by an Israeli bulldozer when she tried to stop it from destroying a Palestinian house in Rafah camp. March, 2003 [612 x 410]

The Israeli army claimed that the driver did not see Corrie, and Israeli courts later closed the case, classifying it as a “war-related accident.”

edit: The driver was not held accountable for that

    2. It was an unfortunate accident – ultimately her fault for attempting to stop an armored bulldozer with blind spots.

    3. She stepped in front of a large bulldozer that had blind spots to the front. What did she expect? It’s like stepping in front of a tank.

We can argue forever about the politics around the situation, but the fact is it is very fucking hard to see out these machines, especially with added armour, which is why there are safety protocols around when using them. Which were breached in this situation, allowing Rachel to get too close.

Let me be clear – any civilian death is a tragedy, including this.

But coming up on construction machinery with major blind spots is a recipe for disaster.

    5. Damn… those poor, poor Israelis. Thumb blisters from whipping out that victim card.

    6. “… while being HELPED by colleagues AFTER she was run over and KILLED..”

      WHAT.

So she ran in front of a moving bull dozer and it’s the drivers fault?

Like give it a rest people. She fucked around and tried to play chicken with a multi ton piece of equipment.

Perhaps she shouldn’t have put herself in harms way.

This is like someone running out into a highway to protest green house gases and gets upset when a car absolutely smashes them at 75 mph.

When do these “activists” get held accountable for their own agency and terrible decision making.

It can’t all just be about altruism.

Don’t stand in front of up-armored D9 and expect it to stop let alone see you.

    9. What happened to the young people in the picture, they can’t be normal people after such an experience ?

Be careful what you say on this site about a certain group of people. I am freshly off of a 7 day ban for “violent hate speech” for criticizing people that drone bomb innocent children.

For those saying, “what did she expect, standing in front of a bulldozer?”

She expected she was dealing with human beings, and that her life had value. Instead, she was met with inhumanity and terror

The Rachel Corrie Foundation (helmed by her parents) hold a weekly peace vigil every Friday in Olympia, WA. I’m a little too far to go with any regularity, but sharing in case others can.

if i don’t see Nuremberg Trials for everyone who has served in the IDF in my lifetime, it will not have been worth living

Great idea. Let me run in front of a military dozer on duty in a conflict zone.

The IDF are terrorists that are commiting a genocide and saying otherwise is a lie.
