“I’ve put people through walls and punched them off buildings, yet they still have enough oxygen to talk. Whatever happens after I’ve left is not my problem.”

Fucking The Last of Us pt2. Naughty Dog really fucked up with that bullshit. I’ve never been more pissed off with a game’s ending than that.

      Worst trope ever.

Even ignoring the minions you murdered, letting the villian go just makes you complacent to any of their future crimes, just like batman.

I think the motivation behind the killing is important.

If im the hero killing my way to the bad guy and now im facing the bad guy why the fuck was i killing my way to him in the first place if im not going to pull the trigger?

I would argue that if you DONT kill the bad guy then you are as bad as them because you just went on a killing spree for no purpose other than you wanted to.

    5. I want a movie to have a protagonist that relentlessly avoids killing goons but mercs the antagonist before he finishes his final monologue.

      Call it “The Deserving”.

I still feel this way with Rick from The walking dead and Negan, like come on bud, you ripped a guys neck out with your teeth, killed soooooo many people, and you get to zombie world Adolf Stalin and just like “No, we have to change” like bro be real, we can’t just come back from all that by sparing a zombie apocalypse dictator who committed crimes against humanity.

I think I have now seen more memes about this trope than I have seen examples of this trope

The Last of Us part 2. Such a terrible story filled with so many plot holes. Fans of the story then do the generic “yOu mIsSeD tHe pOiNt” when in reality *they* missed the glaring plot holes and lack of character continuity between the first and second game. Not to mention the death of a major character that didn’t make any sense. A terrible ending that ignores the journey we just went through.

    9. This why the whole grey morality could never work w Lord of the Rings. Why kill Orcs and then just go, “well, perhaps Sauron is just misunderstood or some shyte”

Spoilers for watch_dogs 1 >!this game even called out this trope and has Aiden go directly against it, saying he can finally breathe again, genuinelyone of the best ubisoft games they made.!<

    11. Fun thing about playing dishonored, you can non lethally subdue everyone but merc the big bosses.

One of the things I loved about the Dishonored games is you can sneak around and avoid killing any goons, and save the violence for the people that deserve it.

    13. Slight twist, for me it’s, “No I can’t kill the villain after I killed 500 of his henchmen, he deserves to see justice for what he’s done!”

I mean there’s a difference between killing in a fight to the death and executing someone after they’ve been subdued.
