3 million is the upper bound,fine for a meme but more accurate as 2 million[(3.8+0.8)÷2]. Also,we have to bear in mind there was also natural disasters in bengal that affected crop harvests,which isn’t man made,although Churchill prevented aid from reaching bengal which would have mitigated the famine,as well as exporting food for reserves, which as far as I know was probably pointless.

The famine was going to happen no matter who was in charge. When a region has been on the brink of famine for pretty much its entire history, and then a world war affects the area, it doesn’t matter who is in charge

I find an effort to deconstruct and demonize historical figures who were against nazis rather suspicious.

Famine came with war, in Bengal, as in Greece, the Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Indonesia.
By way of comparison, the Indo-Pakistan war, thirty years later, generated another devastating famine in Bengal.
The Axis powers brought the war to these countries, and the lion’s share of the blame rests with the aggressors.
Only in this case is blame shifted on to the shoulders of those who were attacked.

This is just not true. As soon as Churchill was made aware of it, he tried to alleviate it, but it was difficult to do with there being a WORLD WAR and all.

Funny, because you people have made hundreds of movies, books, documentaries, and endless posts about your so-called glorious war against the Nazis, all to portray yourselves as God’s chosen saviors of the world.
But the moment people bring up your own actions, the famines your policies worsened, the colonial brutality, and the lives destroyed under your rule, suddenly you get offended and hurt at being exposed.
The Bengal famine was man made, that is true. But not by Churchill, it was the Japanese conquering all of south east Asia ending the free movement of food between nation. Cutting Bengal of from it’s food imports from Burma which the Japanese conquered in 1941. Bengal had depended on food imports from Burma since the mid 1920 to feed it growing population.
Famine was cause by :
– a typhoon destroying crops of the Bengale region in oct 1942
– a rice disease destroying even more.
– destruction of food reserves facing advancing Japanese troop in 19342
– Delay by the bengali regional gouv to alert on the crisis
– Refusal to mobolize crucial naval resources direly needed in time of war
– Mobilisation of food reserve for the army
Starting oct 2023, a new vice king was appointed and measures were taken and help was eventually sent from Australia.
It was already too late. The crises was not cause by a lake of food but by the disruption of distribution networks by all the above. The war economy policy made the prices of food explode and a lot of poor peole starved.
That’s what happened. But since it’s about Churchil and the whole point of lt all is not to seek truth but to destroy any positive figure of the British history, not diverting crucial ressources in time of war becomes the same as building gaz chambers to exterminate people.

The existence of the Bengal Famine Mixture at a time when Britain was also starving shows it wasn’t malice. Its what they also used to feed people in the liberated concentration camp as after starving for so long regular rations were actually killing them as their bodies couldn’t handle it so similarly it wasn’t as simple as sending regular food when they were able to again. Another problem they had was it tasted horrible. The troops at Bergen-Belsen found that dumping a ton of paprika in it just about made it palatable. Churchill was a tactless drunk but he wasn’t a murderer. Famines were a lot more common before modern practises came in but even modern ones are hard to manage. WW2 and the incompetence of the stretched administration are what killed all those people

Being unable to alleviate a famine occurring half way around the world during the deadliest conflict in human history is definitely the same as putting a bullet in the head of 50,000 people.

The famine was a series of blunders by the various levels of authorities. So obviously the stance is different.
