Nothing screams “healthy emergent democracy” quite like shelling your own parliament building with tanks while the president is completely hammered.

I mean, tbf a large part of the economic apocalypse only happened cause US private sector people got in to do the ‚shock therapy‘ capitalist treatment which made it far, far worse and went against a federal vote in Russia to preserve the Soviet economic system
Said vote had 80% of the population participate and 80% of those say yes

I don’t think you can quite compare the collapse of the russian democracy to the nazi regime

Yeah nah first of all “economic apolcalypise” is a weird way to describe economic crisis. Also the weimar republic and also post soviet democratic russia did not solely fall due to economic crisis. In the later years of the weimar republic the great depression had a very large role in the rise of the nazis. However in russia, more so then economic factors, it was the distribution of power and the corrupt system that led to putins rise.

I don’t like the hierarchisation. yes putins russia is bad, but on Weimar followed the shoah. putin has not yet built gas chambers.

If you’re implying Putin’s Russia is somehow ‘worse’ than Nazi Germany… truly one of the most reddit takes of all time.
Ah wait OPs American, makes sense, nevermind.

Worse the second time?
Bro the first time led to WWII and the Holocaust. I’m not a fan of the Putin regime but it’s hard to argue things are turning out worse than they did in the Weimar Republic.

The Weimar Republic didn’t fail because of the great depression

You explained the joke too much. Memes heavily rely on subtext and implied meaning.

Russia didn’t fall to fascism due to economy crisis. If anything it’s economy was genuinely doing great in 2000-2012. Almost no government debt, vast reserve fund, living standard improved massively, compared to absolute shit storm it had since 1987 +-.
It’s economy melted down during communist years, and democracy emerged as an answer.
It fell to fascism because it’s elite chose to stay in power as a whole, in authoritarian system, instead of dividing into smaller chunks and engaging in democratic competition.
