It is a compelling aspect of Frieren’s world building that Demons are properly demonic, not just people with horns you get from many other fantasy series.
It makes perfect sense that immortal beings of magic would have a massive difficulty even grasping the very concept of compassion. They obviously live might makes right society that doesn’t even have a notion of kindness.
This is the kind of writing you’ll see from Mass Effect/Original bioware style story telling. Where conflict doesn’t happen because of whims of some people or circumstances that can be fixed -they happen too- but main conflict grows from natural irreconcilable differences between two parties.
Demons of Frieren are very similar to Darkspawn or Reapers in this sense. Force of Nature style antagonists where reasoning with them is akin to trying to reason with a wildfire for it to stop burning everything.
