If we still fighted with body armor, short swords and throwable spears, bow and arrow, I’d kinda support conflicts. Less destructive, more organizated and more interesting to see.

Knowing my luck, i would probably get jumped by naked drunk Germans that are armed with axes covered in shit for extra biological damage on my first deployment in northern forests

There will always be a power in the levant (Egypt, Judea, Rome, The Byzantines, the Crusaders, The Mamlukes, The Ottomans, Israel) constantly fighting a power in Iran (Achemenids, Seleucids, Parthians, Sassanids, Turks, Mongols, Timurids, Safavids, Islamic Republic of Iran). It’s a law of nature atp

I imagine ancient warfare as being like going on an extended camping trip with your mates with a handful of bad days.
Modern military is way different. Constant anxiety of being sniped or droned or nuked.
I guess they’re the same in concept but not really practice.

Been there done that. Got the shirt. Still don’t understand the appeal of leaving a verdant and mild country to go halfway across the world in order to find some guy who hasn’t bothered you and couldn’t even dream of owning anything you’d actually want at all and then stabbing him in the face for the glory of the empire.
Especially when going abroad to “fight against the enemies of the republic” always seems to feel like a way to make sure the sort of young, fighty men who are keen on that sort of thing don’t get it in their minds to do such a thing at home

Yeah, “forced to”…
They applied for that job instead of a more manual job. And the military takes nearly everyone.

That stick on the right, the one with the sponge 🧽. That’s used to wipe your ass by the way. It’s a community toilet paper. In what scenario would you want to make use of this?

Romans were doing both of those things, lmao.

Well, not ALL of it. I don’t think there is any place in the us of a where he could use a communal ass sponge.

The average guy redditor thinks they would have been a cool armor wearing, sword swinging soldier in a past life but realistically they would have been a farmer. And still fat and out of shape and resented by women.
